About Us

St. Ignatius College began its journey as a Jesuit secondary school in 2012, but its legacy as one of the oldest private secondary schools in Zambia.

In 1976, Leopards Hill Secondary School arose out of a genuine and practical need resulting from a mid-70s government announcement that an estimated 100,000 students had failed to secure a grade eight place and would therefore be unable to proceed with further studies.

Leopards Hill was a community school project aimed at not only providing educational space for students but also providing assistance to the government. By June 1980, the first students were enrolled with the belief that these students would in turn go out and serve their communities and by extension, the nation.

The motto of this school was and will continue to be:

“learning for service of God and others”

Over the years, the school has not only played a significant role in providing spiritual, academic, and character formation to its students but it has also been responding to the developing needs of the community as a whole.

Message From The School President

Saint Ignatius College, with the Society of Jesus, and collaborators around the world, celebrates 500 years of St. Ignatius’s conversion under the theme “To see all things new in Christ. St. Ignatius, a patron of the school, converted from a soldier defending the city of Pamplona in 1521 to a follower of Jesus Christ who made him ready to set the world on fire.” After the conversion, he wanted to make the world a better place and win souls for God; thus, his desire to help other people experience God’s grace, love, and providence increased day by day.

Influenced by St. Ignatius’ conversion, we want to see a world where everyone is protected and helped to overcome the adversities of the world. St. Ignatius College teaches its pupils to learn “for the service of God and others” and be champions of justice by paying attention to the needs of others.

Message From The School Principal

Firstly foremost, the academic management team would like to take this heartfelt privilege to remind our students, teachers and parents about the qualities of and Ignitian student upon graduation. Upon graduation, an Ignitian is:

Moulding students with these qualities is what our outstanding team of gallant teachers, administrative office staff, counsellors, Jesuit ethos, school nurse, and general workers are working hard to actualize in each one of our 350 students, so that they can become educated for the service of God and others. Our Ignitian pedagogical approach through the Academics pillar, Sports pillar and Ignitian Spirituality pillar complement each other to produce such a graduate.

We would also like to reminder to our esteemed students and parents on the Academic Probation which is an important aspect of our college’s academic value stream as enshrined in the school student behavioral policy. Academic probation means that promotion to the next grade is not automatic. Considerations on effort in Continuous assessment tests, homework, class exercises, note taking, book condition, absenteeism, examinations and discipline are taken into account. A lazy and non-performing learner will be returned to his/her parents/guardians and transferred elsewhere. All students and parents at St. Ignatius College have consented to this probation.
