In the spirit of compassionate service and generosity, values we uphold in highest esteem as an Ignatian inspired school, we have been running Lenten Campaigns aimed at raising funds for vulnerable and marginalized groups in our communities in response to the Ignatian call to serve. The Lenten Campaign has become part of the college’s Lenten practice of expressing our solidarity for those who are most vulnerable, isolated and marginalised. This practice has enabled us to put our compassion into action, creating the heart of a true Ignatian student.
In the last 4 years, we have raised more than K100, 000 for young people at Mumbwa Community School, Taonga Children’s centre in Chikuni, Southern Province and joined a campaign by the Jesuits of Southern Africa to raise funds for the victims of cyclone Idai in Malawi, Mozambique and Zimbabwe. We continue as a Jesuit school to contribute to the Jesuit and global mission “To walk with the poor, the outcasts of the world, those whose dignity has been violated, in a mission of reconciliation and justice”. UAP #2
In the month of March, we launched this year’s Lenten Campaign under the theme ‘To Give and not to Count the Cost”. The campaign to raise these funds occurs between March and April from Ash Wednesday to Holy Thursday, a period known as the Lenten Season in the Church. The college community has selected a charity to which they will render service and support and have established the target amount of funds they will raise to donate. The children have also come up with various fundraising activities to ensure they implement their responsibilities. Below is the list of charities the students have selected:
Grade 12: Chimbokaela Prison
Grade 11: St. John’s Hospice
Grade 10: Bauleni Disability Centre
Grade 9: House of Moses Orphanage
Grade 8: SWAZ Community School
It is against this background that St. Ignatius College requests your involvement as collaborators, in assisting the children to raise funds for the vulnerable in our communities. The college kindly requests your involvement by donating through the school account with the narration- Lenten Campaign Fund 2022 or dropping your donation in the Lenten Fund boxes that will be placed at the school reception area.
We thank you greatly in anticipation of your contribution.
