Ash Wednesday Celebrations

The St. Ignatius Community gathered to celebrate a beautiful Ash Wednesday Mass marking the start of the Lenten Season on 26 February. In his homily, St Ignatius College President Fr. Kelly Michelo, SJ, spoke about the invitation God is putting before us of coming back with all your heart. He said we are called to repent and repentance is “changing our minds and hearts.” Fr. Kelly encouraged all the students and staff in order to come back, during Lent, there is a need to be engaged in an extended examine. He said, “reflect on how you have lived the expectations of a graduate at graduation? Reflect on how you have lived the mission of the school as a Jesuit school.”
In the end Fr. Kelly Michelo encouraged all students to take part in the Lenten Campaign which will be launched next week in support of the children at the Cancer Disease Hospital at University Teaching Hospital. He emphasized that this lent comes to us as a reminder to come back and live our call to goodness. An invitation to do the hard work of praying, reflecting and fasting so that we might become the people we were sent here to be. We were created to be so good. Let’s live that.
